Genesis Croix de Fer 60 Powered by MAHLE XS

The Genesis Croix de Fer has earned its place as one of the most respected steel adventure bikes on the market. From gravel riding and bikepacking to commuting and long distance exploration, it has become a go to platform for riders seeking versatility, durability and a ride feel that stands the test of time.

With the launch of the new Croix de Fer 60, Genesis introduces electric assistance to this iconic platform for the first time. The objective was clear: enhance the riding experience while preserving the character that has defined the Croix de Fer for years.

Staying true to an iconic platform

Bringing electric assistance to a bike as established as the Croix de Fer requires a careful approach. For Genesis, maintaining the bike’s handling, balance and versatility was never negotiable.

Throughout the development process, the goal was not simply to add a motor, but to ensure that every aspect of the riding experience remained unmistakably Croix de Fer. The result is a bike that retains the qualities riders already know and trust, while opening the door to longer rides, bigger adventures and new possibilities.

Lightweight assistance with the MAHLE XS System

At the heart of the Croix de Fer 60 is the MAHLE XS System, combining the lightweight X20 rear hub motor, a 171 Wh external battery and a slim battery management system.

With a complete drive system weight of just 2.6 kg, the XS System allows Genesis to introduce electric assistance without fundamentally altering the dynamics of the bike. The lightweight architecture helps preserve the responsiveness and natural ride feel that have become synonymous with the Croix de Fer name.

For riders, this means support that works with the bike rather than defining it.

Natural support, when it's needed most

Adventure riding is about exploring further, tackling new routes and embracing whatever the day brings. Sometimes that means a longer climb, a fully loaded bikepacking setup or simply pushing beyond familiar limits.

Delivering up to 65 Nm of torque, the MAHLE X20 rear hub motor provides smooth, intuitive assistance that feels like a natural extension of the rider’s effort. A bottom bracket torque sensor ensures power is delivered seamlessly, creating a ride experience that remains predictable and engaging across varying terrain.

The focus is not on overwhelming power, but on providing support where it adds the most value, helping riders extend their adventures while staying connected to the ride itself.

Designed to integrate seamlessly

A key reason the MAHLE XS System was selected for the Croix de Fer 60 is its ability to integrate discreetly into the bike’s overall design.

The compact X20 motor is neatly positioned behind the cassette, preserving the clean lines and timeless aesthetic of the steel frame. Equally important, its low drag architecture allows the bike to pedal naturally when assistance is switched off, maintaining the familiar feeling riders expect from a Croix de Fer.

The system can be controlled through discreet E-Shifters and customised via MAHLE My SmartBike App, giving riders easy access to ride data, assistance modes and system settings.

Built for every adventure

The Croix de Fer 60 is based on the latest evolution of the platform, featuring updated tube profiles, revised seat stays and clearance for tyres up to 47c.

Whether heading out for a gravel adventure, loading up for a multi-day bikepacking trip, commuting to work or exploring new roads beyond the horizon, the bike remains true to its reputation as an exceptionally versatile adventure companion.

By combining the proven capabilities of the Croix de Fer with the lightweight support of the MAHLE XS System, Genesis has created a bike that helps riders do more of what they love without changing the essence of the experience.

The new Genesis Croix de Fer 60 demonstrates how electric assistance can enhance a proven platform while respecting everything that made it special in the first place.

Powered by the MAHLE XS System, it delivers natural support, lightweight integration and the freedom to ride further, climb higher and explore more, all while preserving the unmistakable character of the Croix de Fer.
