Pace RCE429: Steel Precision with MAHLE X20 System

Pace introduces the RCE429, an adventure‑focused hardtail built from Reynolds 853 steel and engineered to deliver a balanced, natural and responsive riding experience. The bike remains true to the character of a lightweight MTB while leveraging the efficiency of the MAHLE X20 System to provide support only when needed. Designed and tested in North Yorkshire, it reflects more than three decades of Pace hardtail development.

A frame engineered specifically for lightweight eMTB performance

The RCE429 is not an adaptation of an existing platform. Pace developed an entirely new frameset capable of managing the mechanical demands of an integrated eBike system without compromising the flexibility and ride quality associated with high‑grade steel.

The combination of Reynolds 853 tubing, an eBike‑specific downtube and Pace‑designed chromoly components creates a structure suited for demanding terrain, added load and long‑distance use. Forged and CNC‑machined dropouts integrate the system connections discreetly and securely.

The frame also offers multiple mounting points, enabling various bikepacking and adventure setups.

The natural ride feel of the MAHLE X20 System

The MAHLE X20 System has been selected for its ability to complement the bike’s behaviour without altering the feel of a traditional hardtail.

  • 1.4 kg rear‑hub drive unit, compact and quiet
  • 65 Nm of torque and up to 275 W peak power
  • Responsive support based on real rider effort

The complete system weighs approximately 3 kg, helping maintain an agile and predictable ride, especially important for long distances, loaded riding or technical routes.

Real‑world autonomy and discreet integration

The removable 236 Wh internal battery sits cleanly inside the frame and delivers up to 100 km of real‑world autonomy, depending on terrain and support level.

For extended journeys, the 171 Wh eX1 External Battery increases total capacity while maintaining balance and visual integration.

System management is handled through a minimal interface and a compact Head Unit with wireless connectivity, enabling full interaction with the MAHLE Digital Ecosystem for data, assistance customisation and smart features.

Geometry and handling built for adventure

While positioned within the adventure hardtail category, the RCE429 uses a progressive geometry inspired by short‑travel MTB design. The aim is to deliver stability on rough terrain, long‑distance comfort and precise handling when the route becomes technical.

The bike can be configured with 100–120 mm suspension or with the Pace RC33 rigid fork for riders seeking maximum lightness and direct control. Handmade Blackjack 29″ wheels with an asymmetric offset enhance durability and support larger tyre volumes.
