X35 to XS Switch: Update Your X35 eBike
There is now a new way to update your compatible X35 eBike to the XS System, with up to 45 Nm of torque instead of the current 40 Nm. The X35 to XS Switch keeps your existing rear hub motor while introducing the removable eX1 External Battery, enhanced connectivity and access to the MAHLE ONE ecosystem.
It gives you a new option for continuing to enjoy an older X35 eBike with updated performance, new features and a battery that is easier to remove and charge. It can also provide another route forward when battery service or replacement is being considered.
The Switch is installed by a qualified bike dealer, who will check whether your eBike is compatible and explain whether the new configuration suits your riding needs.
What changes with the X35 to XS Switch?
The Switch updates a compatible X35 eBike to the XS System architecture. Here are the main changes you will notice.
The X35 motor stays
The eX1 becomes the main battery
The internal X35 battery is replaced by the removable eX1 External Battery. It provides 171 Wh of capacity and up to 55 km of assisted range, depending on the rider, route, terrain and assistance level. You can also carry an additional eX1 to extend your ride.
The eX1 can be removed from the bike for easier charging at home, at work or wherever it is most convenient.

New accessory possibilities
After the Switch, you can use compatible accessories including PulsarONE, eShifters, Duo and Trio Remote. Your dealer will help you choose the right controls and accessories for your new configuration.

Before making the Switch
The X35 to XS Switch changes how your eBike is powered and controlled. Before deciding, there are some important differences to consider:
- The eX1 has a lower battery capacity and expected range than the original 250 Wh X35 internal battery.
- The X35 Range Extender, X35 Charger, iWoc ONE and iWoc Trio can no longer be used after the Switch.
- Compatible control options include PulsarONE, eShifters, Duo, Trio Remote and the button integrated into the eX1.
- Previously recorded usage data is not transferred to the updated system.
- Compatibility depends on your eBike’s frame, available space, battery mounting points, cable routing and the condition of the components that will remain on the bike.
Your dealer will inspect your eBike, confirm whether the Switch is possible and explain how the changes could affect your range and riding experience.
How to make the Switch
The X35 to XS Switch must be installed by a qualified bike dealer or workshop.
Start by contacting your trusted bike shop or using our Dealer Locator to find a MAHLE Certified Partner near you. Your dealer will:
- Check whether your eBike is compatible.
- Explain the new configuration and provide pricing information.
- Order the official X35 to XS Switch kit if needed.
- Install and activate the updated system.
- Complete the final checks before returning your eBike.
