MAHLE Launches New M40 eMTB System
MAHLE SmartBike Systems officially enters the eMTB market with the M40 System, a compact, lightweight and powerful mid-drive motor designed for full control and high-performance off-road riding.
Full Power, Full Control
With 105 Nm of torque and 850 W of peak power, the M40 motor delivers high responsiveness even under the most demanding conditions. Designed specifically for mountain and trekking bikes, it adapts seamlessly to the rider’s cadence and effort, offering smooth, natural support and precision performance.
Lightweight System, Heavyweight Performance
The M40 drive unit weighs just 2.5 kg, setting a new benchmark in power-to-weight ratio at 340 W/kg. Combined with the iM5 battery (534 Wh), the total system weight remains around 5 kg, making it one of the lightest full-power eMTB systems available.
For longer rides, the iM8 battery (800 Wh) delivers up to 150 km or 2 500 m of elevation gain.
Responsive Assistance, Seamless Riding
Thanks to advanced sensor technology, the M40 offers smooth motor response without abrupt peaks. Features like Motor Dynamic Overrun and Hill Brake enable controlled starts on steep climbs and precise trail handling.
Connectivity and Customisation Built In
The M40 integrates fully into the MAHLE ecosystem, including the Head Unit + display, wireless Trio Remote, and MySmartBike App. Brands can tailor motor behavior and system settings to their brand identity, with compatibility across the component range.
Ready for the Trail, and Beyond
Developed for rugged terrain, the M40 is also well-suited for urban and trekking applications. With ranges up to 150 km, it brings endurance, efficiency and adaptability to every ride, whether it’s singletrack or city commute.
