1. What is Trio?

The Trio Remote device is a wireless and compact control solution designed for effortless operation. It provides intuitive access to key functions while keeping your hands on the handlebars.

2. Functions and Controls

The Trio controller connects to the eBike system and allows system control. It is typically installed on the left side of the handlebar and features three buttons.

TRIO Remote

Button 1 (Top Button)

  • Short press: Increase assistance level.
  • Long press (> 3 seconds): Toggle lights ON/OFF (if supported).

Button 2 (Bottom Button)

  • Short press: Decrease assistance level.
  • Long press: Activate walk-assist mode. Release to deactivate walk-assist.

Button 3 (Middle Button)

  • Short press: Toggle screen views on the Head Unit +.
  • Long press: Reset trip data.

Please note that button positions and functions can be configured by the bicycle manufacturer and through the My SmartBike App.

3. Battery

Battery Type

  • CR1632 coin cell battery.
  • User replaceable.
  • If previously paired with a Head Unit +, the Trio will retain its pairing after battery replacement.

Battery Replacement

  1. Uninstall the Trio from the handlebar.
  2. Remove the rubber protection.
  3. Unscrew the battery compartment screw (Torx M1.6).
  4. Carefully release the compartment.
  5. Insert the new CR1632 battery.
  6. Ensure the O-ring is correctly positioned.
  7. Reassemble the unit.
Notice
Always respect clamp screw force limits to prevent damage.

4. Battery Safety

This product contains a coin battery. Keep children away. Button batteries can cause serious injury or death if swallowed.

Battery Safety Instructions

  • Do not recharge non-rechargeable batteries.
  • Do not mix old and new batteries.
  • Do not mix different brands or battery types.
  • Do not puncture or disassemble batteries.
  • Do not expose batteries to fire or high temperatures.
  • Always replace with a CR1632 battery.
  • Ensure correct polarity (+/-).
  • Ensure the battery compartment is securely closed.

Operating Temperature Warning

  • Do not leave batteries inside a vehicle on a hot day.
  • Do not store batteries in freezing conditions.
  • Extreme temperatures can reduce battery life and safety.

5. Pairing and Configuration

Configure with My SmartBike App

Download the My SmartBike App and follow the on-screen instructions to configure the Trio with the eBike system.

First Time Pairing

  1. Download and open the My SmartBike App.
  2. Press and hold Button 1 and Button 3 simultaneously for approximately 5 seconds.
  3. The Trio LED will blink blue indicating pairing mode.
  4. Follow the instructions displayed in the app.

6. Installation

Clamping

  • Open the Trio clamp to fit it onto the handlebar.
  • Tighten the clamp using an Hex M3x8 DIN 912 screw and Allen key.

7. Maintenance and Product Care

  • Visit an authorized MAHLE SmartBike Systems dealer for maintenance and spare parts.
  • Do not disassemble or alter the product.
  • Components are waterproof for normal wet-weather riding.
  • Do not deliberately immerse components in water.
  • Do not use high-pressure cleaning equipment.
  • Do not use solvents or thinners.
  • Natural wear and aging are not covered under warranty.

Water ingress can cause operating problems or corrosion.

8. Recycling and Disposal

Battery Disposal

Dispose of batteries in accordance with applicable national, regional and local regulations.

Warning
Never dispose of batteries by burning, crushing, cutting or exposing them to extreme temperatures. Explosion may occur.
