New Alpek Rayo ePowered by MAHLE M40 System

Alpek introduces the Rayo, an eMTB built for exploration where control, response and endurance matter on every climb and descent. At its core sits the MAHLE M40 System, a full power mid drive engineered to deliver instinctive assistance on technical trails and long mountain days. Six months after its launch, the M40 has proven its capability across varied terrain and riding styles, which makes it a natural fit for Alpek’s approach to adventure.

Why the M40 System belongs on the Rayo

Alpek designs eBikes for riders who explore to live, whether pushing limits or slowing down to enjoy the landscape. The M40 System amplifies that philosophy with smooth, decisive support and efficient energy management, so the Rayo stays capable as the trail changes without adding unnecessary mass or dulling handling.

Power with low mass

The M40 drive unit weighs just 2.5 kg and delivers 105 Nm of torque with up to 850 W peak power. That power to weight ratio of 340 W per kilogram gives the Rayo the punch to clear obstacles and hold speed on steep gradients while keeping the bike lively and precise when the line gets complex.

Control from firmware to sensors

Assistance arrives right when you start pedalling and remains smooth even through abrupt cadence changes. The M40’s advanced control unit works with high resolution speed, cadence and torque sensors to read your input and terrain in real time. Dynamic control logic adjusts output on the fly, so the Rayo feels intuitive and predictable when you need to correct a line, accelerate or restart on awkward sections.

Efficient energy with 48 V batteries

Range comes without compromise thanks to two batteries that share the same form factor and connectors, simplifying frame integration. The iM5 with 534 Wh weighs 2.5 kg and keeps total M40 System mass around 5 kg, ideal for riders who prioritise agile handling. The iM8 with 800 Wh offers up to 150 kilometres of range or around 2,500 metres of elevation gain, suited to alpine loops and full day rides.

Cockpit and on trail experience

Head Unit + is a compact and modern display with a 1.9 inch colour screen, multiple mounting options and BLE and ANT+ support, presenting clear, customisable data at a glance. The Trio Remote is wireless with three buttons for flat handlebars, giving straightforward control of key functions while your hands stay on the bar. The cockpit integration is clean and purposeful, aligned with Alpek’s focus on design that serves the ride.

Signature control features

Motor Dynamic Overrun extends assistance smoothly for a brief moment after you stop pedalling, helping you clear steps, roots and compressions without losing momentum. Auto Hold keeps the bike steady on steep inclines to prevent rollback, enabling safe, controlled restarts when space is limited.

Ultra precise speed sensor

Our flagship speed sensor detects variations within less than three centimetres of movement and works alongside cadence and torque sensors to ensure a near instantaneous response to every pedal stroke. The result is consistent assistance without sudden peaks or gaps.

The M40 is the first drive system in the MAHLE M Series, an ecosystem that integrates dedicated batteries, displays and digital services and complements the X Series to define our next generation of eBike solutions. On the Rayo this translates into a coherent experience, full power with refined control and an architecture ready to evolve.

The Alpek Rayo with the MAHLE M40 System is built for riders who want to go further with genuine control and efficient assistance.
